A single leg chain sling is one length of alloy chain with a master link on one end and a hook or other fitting on the other, used for straight in-line picks or where heat, sparks, or sharp edges rule out a synthetic sling. Holloway Houston manufactures this line in-house.
A single-leg sling rigged straight down carries the load in-line; angling it off vertical changes the load path the same way it would for any sling leg. Manufacturer documentation and the sling's own tag are the source for rated capacity at a given working angle.
Working load limit on the single leg chain sling depends on chain grade, size, and leg configuration, so it's shown on the sling's tag rather than as one figure for the category. Rated capacity also differs between vertical, choker, and basket hitches for the same sling, which the tag reflects.
Inspection for single leg chain slings typically covers stretch or elongation, nicks and gouges, twisted or bent links, cracks, and tag legibility, alongside a periodic documented inspection. A sling showing wear against the manufacturer's removal criteria is normally pulled from service.
