An adjustable chain sling uses grab hooks or a similar mechanism partway down each leg so leg length can be shortened in the field, letting one sling handle loads with attachment points at different heights. Holloway Houston manufactures this line in-house.
Shortening a leg at a grab hook changes how much chain is engaged in the load path, and manufacturer documentation for adjustable chain slings addresses how that affects rated capacity compared to the sling's full-length rating - it isn't a fixed deduction that applies the same way across all sizes.
Working load limit on the adjustable chain sling depends on chain grade, size, and leg configuration, so it's shown on the sling's tag rather than as one figure for the category. Rated capacity also differs between vertical, choker, and basket hitches for the same sling, which the tag reflects.
Inspection for adjustable chain slings typically covers stretch or elongation, nicks and gouges, twisted or bent links, cracks, and tag legibility, alongside a periodic documented inspection. A sling showing wear against the manufacturer's removal criteria is normally pulled from service. The grab hooks used to shorten each leg are also checked for wear at the seat where the chain link sits.
