Spelter Socket Compound

Spelter Socket Compound

For decades, terminating wire rope sockets required dangerous molten zinc, open flames, and hours of cooling time. Crosby WIRELOCK® changed the industry by introducing a cold-curing resin system that is safer, faster, and just as strong.

Spelter Socket Compound

Holloway Houston stocks the full range of Crosby W416-7 WIRELOCK® Resin Kits, ranging from 100cc to 2000cc. Whether you are re-socketing a crane line in the field or fabricating boom pendants in the shop, WIRELOCK provides a 100% termination efficiency without the hazards of molten metal.

The WIRELOCK® Advantage

Why Switch from Zinc to Resin?

  • No Heat Required : Eliminates the need for torches, melting pots, and handling molten zinc at 800°F+. This removes a significant safety hazard and "Hot Work" permit requirement from the job site.
  • 100% Efficiency : When used with Crosby 416/417 Spelter Sockets, WIRELOCK achieves 100% of the catalog breaking strength of the wire rope.
  • Fast Curing : The resin gels within minutes and is ready for 100% load in approximately 60 minutes (depending on ambient temperature). Zinc requires hours of cooling before the load can be applied.
  • Approvals : WIRELOCK is the original cold socketing compound approved by Lloyds Register, DNV, and ABS for marine and offshore use.

Product Specifications

Crosby W416-7 WIRELOCK® Resin Kits Each kit comes pre-measured with the resin (liquid) and the hardener (powder).

  • Temperature Range : Effective operating range from -65°F to +240°F (-54°C to +116°C).
  • Shelf Life : Approximately 18 months from the date of manufacture (printed on the container).
  • Application : Suitable for 6x7, 6x19, and 6x37 IWRC wire ropes. Note: Seizing is critical to prevent resin loss during pouring.

Sizing Your Kit

Do not guess the volume. Selecting the correct kit size ensures you have enough compound to fill the socket bowl completely in one pour.

  • 100cc - 250cc : For wire rope diameters 1/4" to 3/4".
  • 500cc - 1000cc : For wire rope diameters 7/8" to 1-1/2".
  • 2000cc+ : For heavy lift pendants and mooring lines 1-3/4" and above.

Tip : Always order 10% more resin than calculated to account for seepage and settling.

Technical Compliance

  • Standard : Meets requirements for wire rope terminations under ASME B30.9.
  • Certification : Type approved by major classification societies (DNV, Lloyds, ABS).
  • Traceability : Batch numbers are printed on every kit for quality control tracking.
