Bolt Type Chain Shackles (Dee Shackles)

When your rigging plan calls for high-capacity, straight-line pulling, the Chain Shackle (often called a "D" or "Dee" Shackle) is the hardware of choice. Unlike anchor shackles which have a rounded bow for multi-angle loads, the Dee Shackle features a U-shaped body designed to align the load directly with the pin. This compact profile makes them ideal for suspension, beam lifting, and trawling operations where headroom is limited and side-loading is minimized.

Bolt Type Chain Shackles (Dee Shackles)

Holloway Houston stocks the premium Green Pin® G-4153 series. Manufactured in The Netherlands, these are the gold standard for heavy-duty rigging. Featuring a Bolt Type safety pin with a nut and cotter pin, they are engineered for permanent or long-term installations where vibration might otherwise loosen a standard screw pin.

The Green Pin Advantage

  • Superior Metallurgy : The bow and pin are forged from high-tensile Grade 6 alloy steel, Quenched and Tempered. This ensures ductility if overloaded, the shackle will deform visually before failing, providing a critical safety warning.
  • Bolt Type Security : The safety bolt, nut, and stainless steel cotter pin mechanism ensures the shackle remains secure even under dynamic rotation or vibration. This is mandatory for many offshore and subsea applications.
  • Galvanized Durability : Hot Dipped Galvanization provides long-term corrosion resistance in marine environments.

Dee Shackle vs. Bow Shackle

It is critical to choose the right shape for your lift.

  • Use a Dee Shackle (This Category): For "One-to-One" connections. Perfect for joining two chains, connecting a sling to a beam clamp, or lifting spreader beams where the load is applied in a straight line.
  • Use a Bow Shackle : If you need to attach multiple sling legs to a single shackle or if the load will be applied at an angle (side-loading).

Capacity & Sizing Guide

HHI stocks the full range of G-4153 shackles to match any load requirement.

  • Standard Lifts : Sizes from 1/2" (2t WLL) to 1" (8.5t WLL) for general construction and equipment rigging.
  • Heavy Lifting : Large bore shackles from 1-1/2" (25t WLL) up to 3" (85t WLL) for heavy project cargo and marine towing.

Note: The Working Load Limit (WLL) is permanently marked on every shackle bow.
