Lifting Shackles

Shackles connect slings to loads, slings to crane blocks, and hardware components to each other in a rigging assembly. Holloway Houston stocks the four main shackle types, screw pin, bolt type, ROV, and web sling, from Crosby, Green Pin (Van Beest), and Cromox, with Working Load Limits from 1/3 ton through 55+ tons.

Shackle Types

  • Web Sling Shackles : wide bow protects synthetic sling fiber. Browse

Compliance & Standards

All shackles stocked meet or exceed :

  • ASME B30.26, Rigging Hardware.
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1926.251(a)(2), Identification Requirements.
  • EN 13889 / EN 1677 (for Green Pin and select European models).

Proof test certifications, batch traceability (MTRs), and documentation packages are available upon request.

Capacity Range & Sizes

The Shackles category spans WLLs from a few hundred pounds to 800,000+ lbs, covering nominal sizes from 3/16" to 7". Heavy-lift wide-body and specialty shackles are stocked for critical lift planning and engineered rigging packages.

Brands Available

  • Crosby shackles are manufactured from quenched and tempered alloy steel for superior ductility and fatigue resistance. The range includes G-209, G-2130, G-2140, wide-body, and sling-saver series, all permanently marked with size, WLL, and PIC codes for full traceability. Suitable for critical lifts, multi-leg sling assemblies, offshore work, and engineered rigging plans.
  • Green Pin shackles are produced to European standards (EN 13889 and EN 1677), offering high-performance bow, dee, and sling-saver designs. Known for precision machining, consistent WLL markings, and corrosion-resistant coatings, Green Pin hardware is widely used in marine, offshore, construction, and transport lifting systems.
  • Yoke shackles provide robust carbon and alloy steel options for everyday rigging and material handling operations. Available in anchor, dee, and sling-saver configurations, each unit is marked with WLL and size identification for compliance and traceability in field operations.
  • Cromox shackles are designed from high-grade stainless steel for environments with extreme moisture, salt exposure, or chemical contact. They provide long-term corrosion resistance for offshore platforms, marine operations, bulk handling, and processing facilities where steel longevity is critical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bolt type shackles are typically selected for connections under sustained vibration, side-loading, or cyclic loading, the bolt-nut-cotter assembly prevents the pin from backing out. Screw pin shackles are the match for routine rigging where the connection is made and broken frequently.
Anchor (bow) shackles accept multi-leg sling connections in the rounded bow and handle side-loading per manufacturer chart. Dee shackles are the match for straight-line pulls where side-loading is not a factor.
