Elite Sales Hooks for Cargo Securement and Rigging

Cargo securement hooks serve a different function than overhead rigging hooks, though both hold a load through a forged steel body. The distinction matters for procurement: transport chain slip hooks and grab hooks are rated for tie-down applications per DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 393 requirements, while overhead hooks fall under ASME B30.10 and carry a working load limit for vertical lift.

Elite Sales produces hooks sized for use with Grade 70, Grade 80, and Grade 100 transport chain. The hook type determines how the chain seats and releases, slip hooks allow the chain link to slip through the throat; grab hooks lock a specific chain link into a notch on the hook and don't slip.

Hook Types

Slip Hooks

Slip hooks have an open throat that allows chain links to slide through freely. The hook seats on whatever link is at the right position for the required tie-down tension, the chain runs through until the binder takes up the slack and holds the position. Slip hooks are the standard end fitting on transport chain assemblies for flatbed tie-down. Available in sizes for Grade 70 and Grade 80 chain.

Grab Hooks

Grab hooks have a narrow, fixed throat sized to capture a specific chain link and hold it. The link doesn't slip, the grab hook locks onto one link and that's the fixed connection point. Used at the anchor end of a chain assembly where the chain hooks into the trailer's chain anchor. Also used where a specific chain length is needed and the connection point can't move. Available in sizes matching Grade 70 and Grade 80 chain.

Clevis Hooks

Clevis hooks attach through a U-shaped clevis body with a pin, rather than through a chain link. They connect to anchor rings, D-rings, and other hardware with a clevis connection point. Clevis hooks with safety latches are used where the load or application calls for a retained connection that won't accidentally release. WLL is marked on the hook body per applicable standards.

Hook Applications

• Transport chain tie-down: Slip hooks at the tensioning end, grab hooks at the anchor end. Standard configuration on flatbed Grade 70 chain assemblies.
• Heavy haul chain assemblies: Grade 80 slip and grab hooks on higher-WLL chain for overweight load securement.
• Ratchet strap assemblies: Wire hooks and flat hooks for ratchet strap-to-trailer connections where a chain hook won't fit the anchor style.
• Aircraft cable assemblies: Hook terminations on galvanized aircraft cable tie-down and barrier applications.
• Light rigging: Clevis hooks for shop rigging, tool balancers, and below-the-hook attachment points where a hook rated for the application is needed.
