Cromox Hooks

Cromox lifting hooks are stainless steel hooks designed for rigging in corrosive environments, marine, offshore, food processing, pharmaceutical, and chemical operations where carbon and alloy steel hooks corrode too quickly for safe long-service use. The Cromox hook line covers weld-on, eye, and specialty hook configurations, all manufactured by the pewag Group in Austria per EN 1677.

Cromox Stainless Steel Hooks for Corrosive Service

Most lifting hooks in industrial service are alloy steel, heat-treated, proof-tested, and marked with WLL per ASME B30.10. Alloy steel gives high capacity at low weight, and it works well in most environments. But alloy corrodes. In wet, chemical, saline, or food-contact environments, alloy hooks need frequent inspection for surface corrosion and eventually need replacement.

Cromox hooks are manufactured from Duplex stainless steel (AISI 318LN), which trades some load capacity for corrosion resistance. The pewag Group manufactures Cromox hooks to EN 1677 , the European standard for hook components in slings and lifting assemblies. AISI 318LN Duplex stainless does not rust in the same way alloy does. That makes Cromox hooks the right choice when the environment is the primary factor driving hook selection.

The line includes weld-on hooks (like the CBHF-2 for big bag applications), grab hooks, eye hooks, and specialty configurations for sling and chain assemblies.

Cromox Hook Configurations

Weld-On Big Bag Hooks (CBHF-2)

The CBHF-2 is a Grade 60 stainless weld-on hook rated at 4,410 lbs WLL. Designed to be permanently welded to big bag frames, filling station structures, and FIBC handling equipment. The stainless body holds up through repeated washdown cycles in food and pharma environments.

Grab Hooks

Cromox stainless grab hooks are designed for chain grab applications, the hook's narrow throat grabs a chain link at a specific point, allowing chain length adjustment in lifting assemblies. The stainless steel body covers grab hook applications in saline, chemical, and wet environments.

Eye Hooks and Clevis-Style Hooks

Eye and clevis configurations are used to connect chain, wire rope, or sling assemblies at the load end. Cromox stainless eye hooks and clevis hooks cover chain and sling termination in corrosion-sensitive rigging systems.

Hook Attachments

Cromox also offers hook attachments, components that pair with hooks in assembly configurations. See the Cromox Hook Attachments page for the full selection.

Why Holloway Houston for Cromox

Holloway Houston has been in the rigging industry for over 65 years from Houston, Texas. We stock Cromox stainless hooks because the Gulf Coast industrial base — offshore platforms, refineries, petrochemical plants, food processors, generates steady demand for corrosion-resistant rigging hardware.

Our rigging specialists can match the Cromox hook model to your application and confirm availability. Holloway Houston also provides rigging inspection services — our qualified inspectors examine hooks and hardware per ASME B30.10 and applicable OSHA standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Holloway Houston stocks Cromox stainless hooks including the CBHF-2 weld-on big bag hook (4,410 lbs WLL, Grade 60), grab hooks for chain assembly applications, and eye and clevis-style hooks for sling and chain termination. Call 1-888-496-4700 for current models and availability.
Cromox hooks are manufactured per EN 1677, the European standard for components of slings and lifting assemblies. The pewag Group, which manufactures the Cromox line, is ISO 9001 certified. In US service, hook inspection and use follow ASME B30.10 requirements.
Not at the same body size. Stainless steel achieves lower tensile strength than heat-treated alloy steel, so a stainless hook at a given body size typically carries a lower WLL than an alloy hook of the same size. The trade-off is corrosion resistance. For applications where exact WLL matters, confirm the rating for the specific Cromox model with Holloway Houston.
Cromox stainless hooks are specified for marine, offshore, food processing, pharmaceutical, chemical, and wastewater environments, anywhere that salt, cleaning agents, humidity, or chemical exposure would degrade carbon or alloy steel hooks faster than the application allows.
Cromox hooks follow ASME B30.10 inspection criteria for hooks in load-handling service, visual inspection for cracks, deformation, throat opening beyond tolerance, and legibility of markings. In chemical environments, inspect for pitting corrosion even on stainless surfaces.
Yes. Holloway Houston provides rigging inspection services for hooks and hardware per applicable ASME standards. Call 1-888-496-4700 to schedule inspection or discuss service options.
