Holloway Houston builds custom slings in-house to your exact specs — any length, WLL, and end fitting combination, with proof testing and cert documentation.

Holloway Grade 100 Chain Slings

Grade 100 alloy chain slings carry higher working load limits at a given chain diameter than Grade 80 assemblies — an advantage where weight or space constrains the rigging and the job calls for more capacity per leg. Holloway Houston assembles Grade 100 chain slings from alloy chain and hardware to the requirements of ASME B30.9 (Slings).

Each assembly ships with a permanently attached ID tag showing the serial number, grade, WLL, and sling configuration. Hook hardware options include self-locking hooks on select models for applications where positive retention is part of the rigging plan.

Chain Sling Configurations

Single-Leg (1-Leg) Chain Slings

One chain leg with a hook and master link. Used for vertical picks and choker hitches on loads with a single attachment point. Available in fixed and adjustable leg lengths.

Two-Leg (2-Leg) Chain Slings

Two chain legs sharing a master link. Wider load bearing footprint than a single leg. Common on fabricated parts with two rigging points. Available in fixed and adjustable configurations.

Four-Leg (4-Leg) Chain Slings

Four chain legs from a master link or master ring assembly. Used on loads with four rigging points — structural sections, equipment frames, and large assemblies. Available in fixed and adjustable leg lengths.

Self-Locking Hook Options

Select Holloway chain sling assemblies are available with self-locking hooks for applications where the load condition makes positive hook retention part of the safety plan.

Chain Sizes and WLL Range

Chain sizes: 1/4 inch, 5/16 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch, and 5/8 inch Leg lengths: 3 feet through 20 feet (fixed); adjustable options available WLL range: approximately 4,300 lbs to 58,700 lbs across all configurations and leg angles

WLL data source: Holloway Houston manufacturer product listings (OEM).

Note: WLL for multi-leg slings depends on the number of legs in use and the angle of lift. The stamped WLL on the tag reflects the rated vertical capacity. Specific configuration ratings are listed on the sling tag, manufacturer documentation, and applicable standards.

Where Holloway Chain Slings Are Used

  • Heavy Manufacturing : Lifting castings, forgings, and fabricated assemblies in foundry and steel mill environments where abrasion resistance matters.
  • Construction Sites : Crane rigging on structural steel, concrete elements, and mechanical equipment.
  • Oil and Gas : Equipment picks in refineries and processing plants, including reactor pulls and heat exchanger lifts.
  • Offshore : Platform maintenance, module lifts, and equipment transfers where the working environment is wet and the load cycles are high.
  • Maintenance and Repair : Plant turnaround work where chain slings handle repeated picks across a shift.

Why Holloway Houston for Chain Slings

Holloway Houston assembles chain slings at its Houston facility. Grade 100 chain and hardware are assembled under our ISO 9001 quality system, with each finished assembly tagged and traceable by serial number. We've been in the rigging business for over 65 years — our team can help confirm the right leg count, chain size, and configuration for a given job.

Rigging inspection services are available for chain slings in the field. Our inspectors evaluate assemblies per ASME B30.9 inspection criteria and OSHA 1910.184 requirements.

Chain Sling Inspection Awareness

Chain slings are governed by ASME B30.9. Inspection criteria include checking for cracks, nicks, gouges, distortion, stretch beyond acceptable limits, heat or chemical damage, and wear on chain links or end hooks. Missing or illegible ID tags are a disqualifying condition per ASME B30.9. Holloway Houston inspection specialists can assess chain sling condition on-site.

Frequently Asked Questions
